highly recommended to book with Vibe Adventures
The two private tours I booked through Vibe Adventures resulted in two days that I’ll remember for the rest of my life.
The first tour, directed by Daniel, landed us in Teotihuacan, where the great pyramids of the sun and moon, as well as the remains of an entire ancient city remain over twenty centuries after being built. Daniel’s zeal for archaeology anthropology as well as his breadth of knowledge elevated this tour from interesting to mind blowing. Beyond the breathtaking sightseeing, the experience gave me insight into the history and mysteries of a people whose city influenced the course of an entire continent’s history. We stopped to lunch at a restaurant in the nearby town; the enchiladas verdes, tacos de carnitas, and chicken vegetable soup were all savory delights much different than the variations available in the US.
The second tour, directed by Paula, began with a boat ride through the floating gardens of Xochimilco, a UNESCO world heritage that teems with life, both the plant and human variety. We passed many boats filled with locals, from which the sound of mariachi radiated. Many houses are built along the channels, so in addition to the ancient history of the place one gets a feel for contemporary Mexican culture.
Afterward, we headed into town to check out a local market as well several Spanish colonial cathedrals (don’t forget to say a prayer for your Catholic friends, they’ll adore that you did). At the market, we lunched on pancita that had been simmering in an enormous clay pot prepared by a stern, colorfully dressed señora with sinewy forearms. Chopped onions, limes, chipotle salsa, and hot off the stove tortillas accompanied the fiery cow stomach stew.
For our last leg of the tour, we visited the Leon Trotsky House. If you don’t know the story, I shan’t go into it here, but be assured that this location is a must see for anyone wanting to feel the somber weight of history contrasted with the pursuit of human progress.
What made Paula special as a guide and moreover as human is that she enjoyed the day just as much as I did.
Book a Vibe Adventure tour, but be ready to have a day that will stay with you long after the sun sets.
