Itinerary
Prepare for the Hidalgo tour! Wake up for an unforgettable adventure day as you meet your guide and head to Hidalgo, where we will explore the rich history, culture, and natural beauty of this fascinating region. Our day begins at Tula, an ancient Mesoamerican treasure and the former capital of the Toltec Empire. Here, we’ll marvel at the monumental stone sculptures of the Atlantes, mighty Toltec warriors that stand proudly atop the Pyramid of Tlahuizcalpantecuhtli. These sculptures, made of stone, are iconic symbols of the Toltec civilization and offer insight into the spiritual and artistic depth of the era.
As we explore further, we’ll visit ancient temples dedicated to gods like Tlaloc (the god of rain) and Quetzalcoatl (the feathered serpent). The intricate reliefs adorning the temples depict gods, creatures, and events that shaped the lives of the Toltec people. The sheer scale and precision of the ruins offer a glimpse into an ancient world filled with myth, history, and culture.
Next, we’ll head to the Aqueduct of Xalpa, an extraordinary engineering marvel built by Jesuit priests in the 17th century. The aqueduct stretches 430 meters and stands at an impressive 62 meters high, showcasing the brilliance of colonial architecture. Originally designed to bring water to the nearby town, it now stands as a testament to the Jesuit influence and an architectural wonder that still dominates the landscape.
Our journey continues with a visit to the charming Magical Town of Tepotzotlan. Known for its colonial architecture, Tepotzotlan offers a peaceful escape into Mexico’s past, where cobblestone streets, colorful buildings, and quaint plazas await. We’ll explore the Baroque-style Convent of San Francisco Javier, home to one of the most beautiful Baroque altarpieces in Mexico, and soak in the historical significance of this UNESCO World Heritage site.
Finally, we’ll visit the National Museum of Viceroyalty in the former Jesuit convent. Here, we’ll uncover the history of Mexico’s colonial past through exhibits that showcase the art, culture, and economic life during the Viceroyalty era. This museum offers a rich exploration of how Spanish influence shaped Mexico’s development.
As we wrap up our journey, we’ll take a relaxing stroll through Tepotzotlan, reflecting on the day’s adventures. We’ll then head back to Mexico City, filled with memories of a day filled with history, architecture, and cultural treasures.
