Day 2: Mexico City
Get ready for a full day of adventure as we take you to explore the rich cultural and historic gems of Mexico City. We’ll also visit the National Anthropology Museum, where you’ll have the opportunity to learn about the diverse indigenous cultures of Mexico. Day 3: Mexico City – Tlalpujahua – Morelia
Join us on an adventure as we depart from bustling Mexico City to our next stop on the Michoacan tour, the charming town of Tlalpujahua. Get lost in the winding streets of this old mining town nestled among picturesque pine forests, and be amazed by its stunning colonial architecture and magnificent pink-stone sanctuary. We will visit a local mining museum, take a walk with your guide in the historic center, and enjoy an optional lunch. Next, we will head to the state capital, Morelia, which boasts a UNESCO World Heritage site in its historic center. Day 4: Morelia – Tzintzuntzan – Janitzio – Pátzcuaro

Take a boat to Isla de Janitzio, the largest island in Lake Pátzcuaro, where you’ll witness the butterfly fishermen and take in stunning views of the lake. Day 5: Pátzcuaro – Paricutin Volcano – Uruapan

Day 6: Uruapan – Paracho – Camecuaro National Park – Zamora
Start your day with a visit to Barranca del Cupatitzio, a national park with a variety of walking paths, artificial fountains, and tropical vegetation. Afterward, head to Paracho, a small town renowned for crafting the world’s best guitars and home to the director of the famous “Coco” movie. Take a walk with a guide in Paracho before heading to Camécuaro, a stunning lake surrounded by hundreds of old cypresses with crystal-clear turquoise water. Finally, take a picturesque walk and swim in the lake before arriving at Zamora, the 3rd largest city in the state, famous for its neo-gothic Cathedral of Our Lady of Guadalupe, one of the largest cathedrals in the American continent. Day 7: Zamora – Cuitzeo – Los Azufres
Firstly, in the morning, go to Cuitzeo, a quiet colonial town that offers a charming view of where the land meets the sky and a lake resembling a giant mirror. Upon a walk around its historic center, we will go to Los Azufres, a national park situated in the middle of the mountains with multiple sulfur hot springs. Optional farewell dinner and get-together in the local restaurant in the evening.

Day 8: Los Azufres – Mexico City
As our tour comes to a close, we bid farewell to the beautiful state of Michoacán. We will depart in the morning, and arrive in Mexico City in the afternoon. For those traveling during winter (November-March), there’s a special treat in store. We will stop at the nearby Monarch Butterfly Biosphere Reserve, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and home to one of the most spectacular natural phenomena in the world. You will be amazed as you witness millions of monarch butterflies gathering to overwinter in this magical place.
For those traveling during other times of the year, we have an equally exciting option. We will visit the Grutas de Tziranda, a natural wonder located in the municipality of Zitácuaro. These incredible caves are filled with stunning rock formations, underground rivers, and a variety of flora and fauna that will leave you in awe.
Whichever season you travel, our final day will be filled with unforgettable experiences that will stay with you long after you leave Michoacán.
