Itinerary
Get ready for the Mexico Food Tour! In the morning, meet your guide and prepare for a memorable adventure as you head to Rancho San Isidro, located in Tlaxcala, one of the region’s most renowned pulque producers. Pulque, a traditional Mesoamerican beverage, is made from the fermented sap of the agave plant, and here, you’ll discover its deep historical roots. As you explore the agave fields, your guide will explain the intricate process of making pulque, from the harvesting of the agave to the fermentation process. A member of a local pulque cooperative will share the history and cultural significance of this ancient drink, which was once considered sacred by the Aztecs.
Afterward, head to Cholula, recognized as a “Magical Town” and a place where ancient history and colonial charm intertwine. Cholula is most famous for its Great Pyramid, which is topped by the Iglesia de Nuestra Señora de Los Remedios, a church built atop the ruins of a pre-Hispanic temple. Enjoy a walking tour of Cholula’s historic center, where cobblestone streets lead you past vibrant markets, charming buildings, and colorful houses. You’ll also have the opportunity to visit a Talavera pottery factory, where you’ll learn about the history and craftsmanship behind Talavera pottery, a craft that has been recognized by UNESCO. Discover the traditional methods used to create this iconic Mexican craft, and even have the chance to create your own piece of pottery to take home as a personal and unique souvenir.
Next, continue your journey to Puebla, the capital city of the state. Begin your visit with a stop at a historic monastery, which is considered the birthplace of mole poblano, one of Mexico’s most famous dishes. Here, your guide will share the story behind this rich and flavorful sauce, made with a blend of chocolate, chiles, and spices. Afterward, take a walking tour of Puebla, admiring its colonial architecture, colorful lanes, and beautiful churches.
No visit to Puebla is complete without a stop at the Parian crafts market, where you can explore a wide array of regional souvenirs like Talavera ceramics, textiles, and silver jewelry. While at the market, sample some of Puebla’s traditional candies such as camotes and borrachitos, sweet treats made from local ingredients. During the tour, you’ll also get to try regional drinks such as handmade local liquors, pulque, and artisanal mezcal, which are essential parts of Puebla’s rich culinary heritage.
After a day filled with culture, history, and gastronomy, relax in our vehicle as we return to Mexico City. This tour will leave you with unforgettable memories of the charming towns, delicious food, and cultural gems that define Puebla and Cholula.
