Itinerary
Welcome to the Antigua Walking Tour, a journey through the beating heart of history. We’ve meticulously crafted this tour, ensuring it’s guided by the finest certified locals passionate about sharing their city’s incredible stories.
Our adventure begins at the Plaza Mayor, a place steeped in history since its planning in 1541. Imagine the skilled hands of engineer Don Juan Bautista Antonelli, using nothing but a square and compass, to lay the foundations of this reticulated urban masterpiece.
We’ll then visit the Parish of San José, nestled within the ruins of the former Catedral of Santiago de los Caballeros, shattered by the Earthquakes of Santa Marta. Feel the echoes of centuries as you explore this sacred place.
Next, we’re off to the University of San Carlos de Guatemala, the country’s oldest and largest institution, and the fourth university founded in the Americas. It’s a living testament to the power of knowledge.
Our journey through time ends at the Concepción Convent, a beautiful ruin and a must-see in colonial Antigua. Lastly, we remember the lavish Iglesia de Nuestra Señora del Carmen, once a glorious Catholic church reduced to rubble by the Santa Marta Earthquakes in 1773.
