Itinerary
Gear up for the Iztaccihuatl Hiking Tour! Our adventure begins with a drive through the Valley of Mexico, where rolling hills and old villages pass by, all framed by the towering silhouettes of Popocatépetl and Iztaccíhuatl, the legendary twin volcanoes that have stood as silent sentinels for centuries.
As we ascend, we arrive at the historic Paso de Cortés, a mountain pass nestled at 3,400 meters (11,155 ft) between these two mighty giants. Named after the Spanish conquistador Hernán Cortés, this site holds deep historical significance and offers the first taste of crisp, invigorating mountain air. Here, you can admire the unique views before continuing the ascent to La Joya, a remote mountain hut perched at an impressive 3,977 meters (13,048 ft). The anticipation builds as we gear up for the main challenge—the 4-hour trek toward the snow line of Iztaccíhuatl.
With every step, dive in the rugged beauty of the alpine landscape. The trail winds through high-altitude meadows and rocky slopes, offering stunning views of the Valley of Mexico far below. Along the way, be delazzed at the ever-changing scenery, where clouds roll in and out, revealing Popocatépetl’s smoking summit, a constant reminder of nature’s power. Your guide will share fascinating insights about the region’s geology, local legends, and the endurance needed to conquer the trails of this volcano.
As we ascend the slopes of Iztaccihuatl, you’ll be rewarded with the marveling panorama, revealing the awe beauty of the Valley of Mexico and the sight of Popocatepetl, Mexico’s second-tallest volcano.
Once back in the vehicle, we head to Amecameca, a charming town known for its colonial architecture and mountain traditions. Stroll through its historic center, visit the market, and savor delicious local specialties, a well-earned reward after a day of hiking.
As the day draws to a close, relax in our vehicle, and cherish the achievement of climbing the peak. We’ll take care now of the journey back to Mexico City.
