Once we arrive, we’ll explore the historic center of Cuernavaca, where the spirit of Día de Muertos is alive in every corner. Stroll through beautiful colonial streets, admire the festive decorations of altars adorned with cempasúchil flowers, and visit cultural landmarks such as the Palacio de Cortés, now a museum featuring fascinating exhibits—including some dedicated to Day of the Dead traditions. Stop by the Borda Garden, where peaceful paths are lined with seasonal art displays and local offerings honoring the departed.
Next, we’ll head to Ocotepec, a small town famed for its authentic Day of the Dead practices that have drawn attention across Mexico. Our experience here begins with an orientation walk through its colorful streets, where homes and altars are elaborately decorated to welcome back the souls of loved ones.
We’ll visit a unique chapel, where locals gather to light candles, leave offerings, and pray. Then, wander through the local market, filled with festive aromas and items sugar skulls, papel picado, candles, incense, and more.
